Zamfir, Britt Nicole, Santa and friends

Zamfir!Fricckin’ ZAMFIR! Zamfir, the king of the ’80s infomercial, unleashes his magical pan flute on the Wham! hit for us. If you don’t recall Zamfir from the ’80s, more recently his song “The Lonely Shepherd” was featured on the Kill Bill soundtrack. And you’re making me feel old.

Britt Nicole’s cover is my new favorite “guilty pleasure” version.

Who knew Santa could rock?! Wait…This does not rock in the least…In fact, it’s really the antithesis of rock…WTF SANTA?!

If you understand German, you can check out the glowing 1-star reviews for the 2-disc set this comes from. The Harley Santa from the cover art is appealing though.

I almost went to classify this as dance, but this is so much more than that: It’s disco! We may be quick to put it in that category since Russian duo Smash!! is known as a pop band, but we don’t have much disco in the collection yet, so why not pad that stat if possible? You can also check out the sweet video we posted last year from Smash!!

Solace, Griffin, Campbell and Frank

Corporate SolaceI think this is a first. Two covers by one band, not remixes. Way to go guys! Another plus is that they only record Christmas music. The first is a fun acoustic cover full of hijinx. It would seem that just a hint of the magic led them to do a more proper cover soon after that, thus version two, which is a little more difficult to classify. Their daring to try two covers earns them a Magical Snowflake!

You can download these, plus much much more Christmas music on their site.

Mr. Griffin earned his fame on, er, Fame Academy in the UK a few years ago and is known for doing comic song interpretations at live events. While I wasn’t doubling over in laughter during his take on “Last Christmas,” there are a few good lines in there.

This comes via a massive Alistair Griffin live show archive found here and you can find his studio albums on amazon.com

Will wonders never cease? Today we present to you “Last Christmas” as performed with a pan flute! And not to get ahead of ourselves, but we have a few more up our sleeves for later postings if this doesn’t whet your whistle. As for Gordon Campbell, we couldn’t find much info on him, but the album this comes from, Winter Dreams, celebrates with lots of other Christmas pan flute joy.

Something about this next version makes it one of my personal favorites. Louis Frank does salsa music, and rather than continuing to try and imagine what this might sound like just download it already.
