Jan, Benassi, UTE and The Three Degrees

I can’t read Jan Johansen’s site, but who needs to? What a sassy fellow! (As an aside, does he remind anyone else of David Brent?)

Is this really a Benny Benassi mix? Nothing on his website confirms this, but it seems very much like something he might do. Until someone can deny his involvement, we’ll keep it labeled as his. Deal? Deal.

Wham! – Last Christmas (Benny Benassi Remix)

Ute is trying to seduce you into reconciliation, using any peculiar jazzy-pop means necessary. Well, it’s not working on me. But don’t take my word for it! Her whole Christmas album, Pink Christmas, is available on amazon.com

God this next version is amazing. At about 1:39, the vocals come in and you’ll see what I mean. I don’t even know if he’s singing “Last Christmas” or not, but it doesn’t matter. This is a beat-driven shove into Christmas madness. Good luck searching this online and not finding porn… Does anyone have a direct link to the artist page and/or know where it’s from? In any case, its severe ambiguity and total danceability make it our Magical Snowflake Award pick of the day.

The Three Degrees have been around for a while (kind of like Menudo), so I’m unsure which combination of the ladies this is; I’m not very well-versed in their history.

Poor things, in their video they’re trapped in a snow globe!

Keshia, Sailor Moon, and Countdown

To use the parlance of our times, it looks like Ms. Chante is “blowing up.” She’s on MTV Canada’s Diary and her new CD comes out in two days, though you can pre-order it on amazon.com if you can’t wait. I think the CD came out today in Canada though. She must be Canadian. Anyways, the only info on this version comes courtesy of wikipedia, which says her R&B version of “Last Christmas” was released in 2004 (and confirms my suspicions as to her nationality).

In 1995 the Sailor Moon ladies released a holiday album, with this version of “Last Christmas” by Sailor Mars (T. Michie is her voice actor). The whole album is available for download here in .ogg format. The best part is their version of “When the Saints Go Marching In.”

I don’t know anything about this, except that whoever made it tried really hard to make it danceable. Several interesting things in this one: 1) The singer starts to lose time during the chorus. I suspect it’s because he’s finally living the dream of singing “Last Christmas” for all the world to hear. 2) For some reason they omit all lyrics other than the chorus and the first part of the first verse. This is okay with me, as long as I get to hear the line, “Tell me baby, do you recognise me?” 3) Notice the wimp-out whispery way he says “twice shy.” It rules.
