Well, a chim-chim-chiree and a hearty thanks to everyone who has linked to us, emailed us new versions, or sent us funny George Michael stories. Keep ‘em coming! We’ll start posting the new submissions soon, and if you’re sending stories, remember: why only share your Wham anecdotes (Whamecdotes?) with us, when you could share them with the world? That’s what the comment link is for!
And as a challenge to you, dear readers, we are not officially sanctioning a Magical Snowflake Award winner this day. Instead, it’s your choice; leave a comment with your vote. Who do you think should take home the trophy? Also, today we start removing the week-old downloads, so Day 1 is gone. Sorry bro, that’s just how it is. And now, let’s get on with Day 8 of the madness!
This first version is by Icelandic rock band Ensimi who says, “We did this cover as a charity event held at Christmas for a radio station called ‘Radio X’ in Iceland about 4 years ago.” Though no officially recorded version exists, this one is pretty solid. Ensimi is currently working on new stuff, so check out their myspace for more info.
Ensimi – Last Christmas
We haven’t found much info on this next one. And it’s not available on amazon. But it sure as hell makes you want to dance!
Le Groove w/ Gwen Dickey – Last Christmas (Club Mix)
This is off the 2004 holiday album from the Pop Idol kids of season 2. Much to our dismay, they don’t try anything new with it, much to our pleasure they up the version count. Kudos!
Pop Idols – Last Christmas
This is one is available at amazon.com.

If UTE wasn’t able to seduce you, then I’m sure Latin singing sensation Raphael will. In fact, I would bet on it.
Raphael – La Ăšltima Navidad
All of his holiday album is also available at amazon or itunes.

A choir?! Yes! They are “a youth choir from Aarschot, Belgium, roughly sixty(!!!!) teenage girls, directed by two talented brothers.” And these guys are hip too. Their newest album has covers from Radiohead, Elbow, and Coldplay, but the standout track on the album is a cover of “Heartbeats” by The Knife.
Scala & Kolacny Brothers – Last Christmas
And if you buy the “Last Christmas” single or itunes there is an extended version of the song for your enjoyment.

When I first heard of the Rap Allstars, I imagined a Super Friends-type society, in which Snoop, Missy Elliot, Biz Markie, Snow, and Rev Run constantly battle a group probably called the Legion of Polka. But when they recorded their version of “Last Christmas,” I guess all the founding members were away in the orbital watchtower. Thankfully, they let a slowed-down George Michael hang out with them.
Rap Allstars – Last Christmas
You can find this CD single on amazon.com, but why the heck is it $50?

The video is free though…
So there you have it, the contestants for Day 8. Who is going to go home with the Magical Snowflake Award? Don’t forget to comment — lines are open two hours after the show. Seacrest out!
