Jan, Benassi, UTE and The Three Degrees

I can’t read Jan Johansen’s site, but who needs to? What a sassy fellow! (As an aside, does he remind anyone else of David Brent?)

Is this really a Benny Benassi mix? Nothing on his website confirms this, but it seems very much like something he might do. Until someone can deny his involvement, we’ll keep it labeled as his. Deal? Deal.

Wham! – Last Christmas (Benny Benassi Remix)

Ute is trying to seduce you into reconciliation, using any peculiar jazzy-pop means necessary. Well, it’s not working on me. But don’t take my word for it! Her whole Christmas album, Pink Christmas, is available on amazon.com

God this next version is amazing. At about 1:39, the vocals come in and you’ll see what I mean. I don’t even know if he’s singing “Last Christmas” or not, but it doesn’t matter. This is a beat-driven shove into Christmas madness. Good luck searching this online and not finding porn… Does anyone have a direct link to the artist page and/or know where it’s from? In any case, its severe ambiguity and total danceability make it our Magical Snowflake Award pick of the day.

The Three Degrees have been around for a while (kind of like Menudo), so I’m unsure which combination of the ladies this is; I’m not very well-versed in their history.

Poor things, in their video they’re trapped in a snow globe!

I just went to the Benny Benassi site, and I agree. I think it’s him.

I’m worried about Jan. I’ve listened to his cover fourteen times and I’m convinced that Jan has other people living inside him that have come out to sing, sometimes at the same time. There are literally five different intonations throughout the song, some even appear to have accents. Now, I’m no mental health expert but I could swear at the beginning of the song it sounds like he forgets the words, changes into personality #1 , the ooohh, ooohhh woman and then moves into a cookie-monsterish personality. Then changes back into the “Jan” character who sounds white, moves into “black” Jan, splits into both white and black Jan and ends with a conglomeration of all the personalities. It’s a work of art. Jan just might be the best band in the world…all by himself.

This site is pure GENIUS! Last Christmas has been my single most favorite holiday tune since it was released. I was a lovestruck teenager enjoying my first holiday romance at the time, and this song always brings back memories of that period. I have owned the original extended version from the duo’s Music From The Edge of Heaven CD for years, and likewise have enjoyed covers of the song as well… like those from Hilary Duff and that high-pitched dude from Savage Garden. I really like the new Ashley Tisdale version, and big props for having it here for download. My daughter, who is four, loves High School Musical and is developing her own appreciation for the original song this year, is gonna love it when I play her that Tisdale cover. Can’t wait for what is yet to come! (By the way, I got here via Pop Candy blog on USA Today’s Web site.)
