Pop Noir fancy themselves stars already I think. It’s a little off putting, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. They’re apparently a couple of uber-talented brothers who not only have an up and coming band, but are award-winning illustrators whose father did album covers for Joy Division! So of course it stands to reason that in their rise to the top, covering LC can only help. It did wonders for
Taylor Swift!
You can hear more of their music on Itunes.
Next we’re going to have a chiptune-off. For those that don’t recall, chiptune is the term for music generated through retro gaming devices like a Gameboy or Commodore 64 for example. It’s really amazing, and I personally love the sound. It helps if while listening to these you imagine George Michael in 8Bit shooting lasers and killing robots.
So first we have Kid Icaris followed by Swede Magnus Djurberg (aka Gouafhg). Aron sent us this version along with a whole new album of Christmas tunes he’s gathered, which you can find here. Both are unique takes and different from past chiptunes we’ve featured, like Goto80. Great stuff!
Kid Icaris – Last Christmas
Magnus Djurberg – Last Christmas
We’re sending Magnus’ version out in our podcast, so if you’d like to have select version of “Last Christmas” sent right to you, there’s no better way. Over in the right hand column you’ll find our latest selection and the link to subscribe. Viola!
Also, if you’re still into retrogaming or know someone who is, check out this amazing led NES cart, available from RetroZone. It’s also a playable game!
