Well, well, well.
I’ll bet you thought 192 was the best we could do. You thought to yourself, “These guys are freakin’ awesome, but I doubt there’s enough steam in the ‘ole Wham-wagon to go one more round.”
Well, you’re partially right — we are awesome. And to be honest, we were pretty Whammed-out after last year. But not enough to falter in our duties to you, our dearest readers. Like the US Postal Service, our holiday promise of a month full of “Last Christmas” still stands.
But before you break out your Katharine Hamnett shirts, we should warn you that our track count this year won’t be nearly as impressive as last years (though I think you’ll be thoroughly impressed). And if it would please the court, we’d like to refrain from daily updates, just for time and sanity reasons.
First things first, per request, we’ve packaged all of last year into three MEGA files which can be found here:
FYI, we’ll add the links to the side bar after today. Please listen responsibly and seek counsel if necessary!
Second, since we packaged the days up as larger files, Day 24 from last year appears to be the most downloaded day. Gotta love the Duff. Also, hey! Check it out, we’re on mistletunes!
We’ll kick off this year with a real gem. Last year, Erdmöbel’s “Weinhachten” was described to us as the only cover to be “officially sanctioned” by George Michael. But how did Andrew Ridgeley feel about it? The world may never know….
Check out Erdmöbel’s greatest hits cd at amazon where they cover “Smells like Teen Spirit,” “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” and “What’s New Pussycat”

UK band The Heartbreak Avoidance Strategy (or “THAS” to insiders) kindly sent us this version they recorded last year. Here’s what they had to say:
“We basically just mashed the song up and changed the chord structures around, I dont really see the point in doing a cover of a song excatlly the same as the original, certainly for us we had to bring a little something of our own to the song.”
Make sure to stop by their Myspace page to check out more songs and wish them happy holidays! They’re getting this year’s first Magical Snowflake Award for sending us their version early!

The Heartbreak Avoidance Strategy – Last Christmas
You know, we tried to be nice about it last year — but frankly, we don’t think there are enough rock versions of this song. And so, the gauntlet has been thrown down. Rock bands of the world, the management of Last Christmas HQ demands more! And to get the ball rolling, here’s a version by Evil Beaver. But be warned: this isn’t your typical rock cover. Their older Christmas album is available on amazon.com.
Evil Beaver – Last Christmas

What’s this? A tune that has nothing to do with the holidays… yet it samples “Last Christmas?” Music industry moguls, take note! This song is a real treat if you’re okay with hearing “Last Christmas” past December. And Rollergirl is a German artist(!!!) It looks like she has a few singles available at amazon.

So it has begun! Tell your friends! Send us tips! Dance in puddles!
